meduim bw steve lines 282x300 About Me I have been involved in the real estate finance industry since 1996 when I took my first job as a loan officer. I worked through college as a loan officer for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in their Spanish-Speaking FHA and VA division where I consistently ranked in the top 10% in monthly originations. This experience provided a sound base of FHA lending knowledge.

Upon graduation from college at Arizona State University, I began working as an auditor for Ernst & Young, one of the “Big 4″ accounting firms. While there, I had a multitude of matchless accounting experiences. I was exposed to the operations of a variety of companies in different industries, both private and public, and I enjoyed the opportunity to contribute to the audits of many other companies in numerous ways.

While at Ernst & Young, I had the opportunity to obtain my mortgage broker’s license through the Arizona State Banking Department (now the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions). Initially, this was done as a way to create a passive revenue stream in order to supplement my income. I started my small mortgage brokerage, consisting of two employees working from their homes, while continuing to work for Ernst & Young. After a few months, the brokerage became more successful and consequently demanded more of my time and responsibility. As such, I made the decision in the fall of 2002 to leave Ernst & Young and run the mortgage brokerage full time. Within three years, I had opened multiple offices and recruited dozens of loan officers. On top of maintaining the company’s residential and commercial loan origination operations and my personal client relationships, I handled all of our compliance and accounting.

Since that time, I have brought my team of loan officers to Academy Mortgage, a company that has built a rock-solid reputation as a service-oriented mortgage banking firm specializing in FHA lending for over 20 years.As mentioned above, I am fluent in Spanish and enjoy working with many Spanish-Speaking customers.

I am an Arizona native and I am proud of my local heritage. My great grandfather, Milton Lines, served in the Arizona House of Representatives for 18 years. My maternal great grandfather, Alma Davis, 06athlet About Me played on the football team for the Tempe Normal School, the predecessor of Arizona State University in 1899. After he graduated he pursued a career in education and during his career he served as the first Director of Vocational Education in Arizona, Justice of the Peace, Chairman of the Mesa Union High School Board of Trustees, and Secretary of the Colorado River Commission where he helped the State of Arizona obtain legal entitlement to its full share of water from the Colorado River. I am one of four brothers who have graduated from Arizona State University, and we are the fourth generation of our family to have graduated from Arizona State University or its predecessor.
