Oro Valley is a suburban town located 6 miles north of Tucson, Arizona, in Pima County. According to 2007 U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the population of the town is 40,195. Dubbed the “Upscale Tech Mecca” of Southern Arizona by the Arizona Daily Star newspaper, Oro Valley is home to over 10 high tech firms and has a median household income nearly 50% higher than the U.S. median. The town is located approximately 110 miles southeast of the state capital of Phoenix.

Oro Valley is situated in the western foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains at the base of Pusch Ridge. The Tortolita Mountains are located north of the town, and vistas of the Tucson valley are to the south. The town occupies the middle Cañada del Oro Valley. Oro Valley hosts a large number of residents from around the U.S. who maintain second or winter homes in the town.

In March 2008, Fortune Small Business magazine named Oro Valley #44 on its list of “100 Best Places to Live and Launch” a business. The August 2008 issue of Family Circle magazine featured Oro Valley as one of the top ten best towns for families in America. Money Magazine reported Oro Valley was one of the best places to live in 2007 and 2008. Nick Jr. Family Magazine rated Oro Valley as one of the “Ten Most Playful Towns in America” in 2004. The magazine used criteria such as schools performing in the top third of their states, favorable student-teacher ratios, general safety, library programs, and access to arts and recreation activities. Also, in 2005 Oro Valley was named one of “America’s Top-Rated Smaller Cities” in the publication by Grey House Publishing. The publication specifically noted the excellence of Oro Valley’s schools, medical facilities, and golf courses.

Marana is a town in Pima County, Arizona, located northwest of Tucson, with a small portion in Pinal County. According to 2006 estimates, the population of the town is 33,000.

The town extends along Interstate 10 from the line between Pinal and Pima County to the Tucson city line, excepting the area around the unincorporated community of Rillito. The city has a history of farming and ranching. The Tucson Mountains and the western half of Saguaro National Park are located to the west. Southern Marana has grown considerably since the early 1990s, with the addition of businesses and housing, much of it due to annexation of existing (and previously unincorporated) nearby neighborhoods. Phoenix is approximately one hour north via Interstate 10.

Winslow is a city in Navajo County, Arizona. According to 2005 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 9,931.

Winslow, which was a stop on the U.S. Route 66, was bypassed by I-40 in the 1970s. It achieved national fame in 1972 in the song Eagles song “Take it Easy” which had the verse “standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona.”

The nearby Meteor Crater, sometimes known as the Barringer Crater and formerly as the Canyon Diablo crater, is a famous impact crater. Painted Desert and Petrified Forest are less than 20 miles from Winslow, as is the Little Painted Desert.

Snowflake is a town in Navajo County, Arizona. According to 2006 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the town is 4,958.

Snowflake is nestled in the juniper tree and grass-covered foothills of Arizona’s White Mountains, which gradually give way to the windswept Colorado Plateau just north of town.

Snowflake features a historic downtown district with original pioneer era homes open for tours. Many of these homes are well-preserved examples of nineteenth-century Mormon architecture.

Recently, the town and surrounding area have experienced steady growth, primarily to the east, west and south. A 27-hole golf course has been established near the Snowflake Arizona Temple, built by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2002.

Show Low is a city in Navajo County, Arizona. It lies on the on the Mogollon Rim in east central Arizona, at an elevation of 6,400 feet. The city was established in 1870 and incorporated in 1953. According to 2007 Census Bureau estimates, the population was 11,763.

According to the legend, the city was named after a marathon poker game between C.E. Cooley and Marion Clark, they decided there was not enough room for both of them in their settlement. The two men agreed to let a game of cards decide who was to move. According to the story, Clark said, “If you can show low, you win.” Cooley turned up the deuce of clubs (the lowest possible card) and replied, “Show low it is.” Show Low’s main street is named “Deuce of Clubs” in remembrance.

Show Low is a popular recreational area as it is an entry point for visitors to the White Mountains. Tourism and recreation are the foundation of the local economy. Due to its size and location, the community serves as a regional trade and services center for southern Navajo County and portions of southern Apache County.

Lake Havasu City is located in Mohave County, Arizona. According to 2006 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the town is 56,355. It is located on the western border of Arizona on the shores of Lake Havasu.

Lake Havasu City is an active destination for wide range of people. During the spring months, the community is joined by university students during Spring Break while the California boaters begin to stream in as the weather warms. March to September are the prime boating months on Lake Havasu. The city is also home to the International World Jet Ski Final Races, multiple professional fishing tournaments, custom boat regattas, the Western Winter Blast pyrotechnics convention, and the Havasu Half Marathon.

During the winter months, the community is joined by retirees from colder regions of the country and Canada.

A popular tourist attraction in Lake Havasu City is the London Bridge, which was bought for $2.5 million from the City of London when the bridge was replaced in 1968. The bridge was disassembled, and the marked stones were shipped to Lake Havasu City and reassembled for another US $7 million. It opened in October 1971.
